Jezioro nie jest bezpośrednio zagrożone, ale toksyczna substancja przemieszcza się rzeką Torna na północ Węgier w kierunku Dunaju. Według najnowszych informacji, skażona woda dostała się już do dopływów Dunaju. Zagrożenie ogłoszono dla siedmiu powiatów.
