Około 200 tornad przeszło falami przez stany położone nad Zatoką Meksykańską. Niektóre z nich miały szerokość nawet 1,5 km.
Uszkodzeniu uległa również elektrownia atomowa Browns Ferry w Alabamie. Na szczęście nie doszło do wycieku substancji radioaktywnych. Będzie zamknięta przez wiele tygodni.
Ostatnia, podobna w skutkach tragedia naturalna w USA miała miejsce 6 lat temu podczas ataku huraganu Katrina w Nowym Orleanie.
